Muses Estate premium Chardonnay Fumé:
WINE CHARACTERISTICS: Complex Chardonnay made from high-cropping wines in the Valley of the Muses. It’s rich and concentrated with peach, toasted nut, spicy oak character and smooth as soft silky aftertaste. The first oaked Chardonnay from Muses Valley.
HARMONY: Cabbage rolls, boiled vegetable salads, lobster, pork in white or lemon sauce.
VINEYARD: The soil is fertile, with mixed composition ranging from sandy loam to clay loam thus offering the possibility of producing wines of exquisite quality and rich aromas. The microclimate of the region is characterized by cold winters and warm summers, while a small river called Permisos contribute to the existence of a mild continental climate
VINEYARD SLOPE: The vineyards are located at an altitude between 450 and 550m and have a slope between 3 and 7%
VINE-GROWING: We cultivate our vines according to the principles of integrated agriculture, which ensures protection for the environment, the consumer and the people working in the fields.
Most of the varieties are planted in linear vineyards trained in double cordon royat. We plant all of our vines in densely planted rows, a technique which results in lower yields per vine and, therefore, higher quality grapes.
AGEING: 8 months in oak barrels 300-500 lit
SUGGESTED DRINKING WINDOW: 4-6 years | Served Best at 10-12° C | Alcohol: 14.5%
“Between Two Worlds”
This wine expresses our “Between Two Worlds” philosophy in a particularly meaningful way.
On the one hand, it comes from a single vineyard, where the specific rows selected for the Chardonnay Fumé have a different soil composition, with a higher clay content compared with the predominantly sandy-loam soils found on either side.
This difference gives the grapes greater structure, depth and ageing potential, allowing them to respond exceptionally well to barrel maturation.
On the other hand, the wine also stands between two worlds from a stylistic perspective. It combines the freshness, elegance and Greek identity of an Old World wine with the richness, volume and more expressive character often associated with New World Chardonnay.
Therefore, “Between Two Worlds” refers both to the vineyard itself and to the distinctive personality of the wine.
The Wine
The new vintage is rich, full-bodied and generous, with a beautiful texture and volume on the palate. At the same time, it retains excellent acidity, providing freshness, energy and balance.
We are particularly excited about the new direction of the Chardonnay Fumé. We now work mainly with new 300- and 500-litre barrels, most of which are treated with steam rather than direct fire, using the Aquaflex technique.
This results in a more refined, clean and elegant expression of oak, with excellent integration and balance. The wine matures in a barrel for eight months.
