The RARE EARTH series is the choice of people in the Strofilia Estate to highlight both their excellent work on local and international varieties and the individual vineyards that they have distinguished throughout the years. Galari, located in Ancient Nemea, is characterized by three innovative decisions: low plant density, LYRA configuration of vines, which offers longer exposure to the sun, while cultivating an unique varietal blend.
- Mixed vinification of Agiorgitiko, Petit Verdot and Tannat to combine the velvety character, the refreshing acidity and the polyphenols of the varieties respectively. It matures in new French oak.
- Dark, crimson color that develops the ripe red fruit aromas that follow. Discreet vanilla, sweet spices and aromatic herbs from the oak .
- Full bodied, with ripe tannins and balanced acidity, shows signs of an excellent development over time. It pairs perfectly with roast beef and game, as well as aged cheeses and sausages.
And a little technical:
This exceptional vineyard, “Galari”, of low-to-middle fertility, lies on the slopes of the valley of Ancient Nemea, in moderate altitude, facing south-east and is surrounded on three sides by a thick pine forest. LYRE vine training system, according to Prof. A. Carbonneau, to maximize leaf exposure to sunlight per kg of produced grapes. Reduced planting density from 4400 to 2300 plants/ha, to control vine vigor.
Pre-fermentation cold co-maceration of the 3 grape varieties, followed by alcoholic fermentation with selected strain of saccharomyces cerevisiae and maceration in moderate temperatures. Maturation in new and used 225-liter barrels made of French oak. Bottled unfiltered.
